Early StARTS grant

In November of 2010, I received a grant from the Maine Foundation, Early StARTS, to be an artist in residence at the Starrett Children’s Center. I titled it “Yes is a World: Drawing, painting, and collage on photographs… and more.” In the first few weeks, kids drew and collaged on photographs, so that marks, lines, and colors created a new realm which merged my camera-produced images with their hand-drawn responses. In the following weeks, working independently and collaboratively, kids also created puzzles & cubes, painted murals on the floor, embellished the changing “wallpaper,” played with shadows, played drawing games. Above are collaborative works created by Max, age 4, Eliot, age 4, and me.
